I got distracted again and again while trying to upload this and will go off on a tangent now. I am very lucky that twisted has some regular supporters via patreon. It s not enough to make a living off this comic but I don t have to worry about the running costs of this project and dont feel guilty when printing extra stuff or getting nice drawing materials. I ll try to be short about this because I still hope that all the excitement and anger will be rolled back again. For now it looks like patreon adds an extra fee to every single contributions on the side of the supporters. Sure, there ve been handling fees, payment service fees, conversion fees and some other stuff. the fixed fee drove away supporters that support a lot of creators with smaller fees. A person supporting 1 person with 100 dollars would pay about 104 dollars in fees but if they support 100 people with 1 dollar, they re more at 140 dollars.
There are so many things that anger me about this. First: This hurts mainly people who don t have much to give and creators that have a big fanbase among those. The income inequality is already so bad and this is just another facette that s getting inequal for poorer people.
The communication was so bad and while i am not existentially threatened I lost my trust in that system and hate how much power such a service has over people dependent on it.
Even if patreon reverses this decision that feels so much like being fueled by corporate greed dressed in WE JUST WANT TO HELP YOU CREATIVE TYPES, the trust is gone. Sure, I can look for new platforms, but what prevents them from doing the same.
I ll take some extra time to look into ko-fi, tipeee and d.rip.
