What i WISHED i had animated was Gabriel opening her hands, and like a rainbow above her beautifully lettered her epiphany. Instead...you get this and even this took way too long. WHYYY.
Look! The knife disappears as quickly as it appears.
And i deliberated until the last minute, if i really should leave B s comment about the tape and ls reaction in the next panel in. It will never really be spelled out but yes, YES L is listening in on Gs tape before the day starts to plan ahead and change the course of what might happen. But i stop myself with the thinking about that mechanic RIGHT there because I am not writing a time travel reality changing comic. That tape so doesnt make sense, but in context of the story it does for me. just.... no thinking too deeply about it.
I bet i already wrote this at least two times. That tape originated from my original idea of Gabriel calling an answering machine to talk about her day, plans, fears... like a psychotherapy session. i always have that image in my head of her sitting in a phone booth, cowering, staring into the night and narrating the comic in past tense. Somebody one day might find that heap of tape - no, no idea who changes them - and reconstruct the story.
I think one of Chuck Palahniuk s Stories... the flight some-number one... was sadly constructed the same way. one of the reasons i ditched that. Also it was just a romantic image, not really important for the story.
And lastly: I had the joke of gabriel using a german phrase - das zünglein an der Waage (literally: the toungue to the scales, meaning the tiny fraction of weight to tip the scales) and barbera had a field day with deliberating how to take this literally. this chapter already IS so much discussion, i had to cut stuff out.
